Fruit and nuts allergies


Fruits contain numerous vitamins and minerals that help boost the immune system. Such boosters also enable the body to prevent any disease from harming the body. In addition, fruits of every color are important because it provides a whole lot of phytochemicals that gives essential nutrients to keep the body healthy. However, not all people can choose to eat these very nutritious fruits as it might cause them some allergic reaction.

Fruit and nuts allergies occur after the ingestion or exposure to the fruits. The fruits that cause such allergy are bananas, pineapple, watermelons, peaches, kiwi, strawberries, citrus fruits and nuts.  Fruit and nuts allergies are usually mild reactions in the mouth and throat. Oral Allergy Syndrome is the most common type of fruit allergy which is characterized by a tingling sensation in the throat. It can be followed by itching and swelling of the lips, palate and the tongue. Other symptoms include having watery, itchy eyes, allergic rhinitis, asthma and hives.


Sometimes, certain fruits and nuts have their own respective effects on people having allergies on them. Nuts are known to cause skin reactions such as rashes, eczema, etc. It can also cause problems in the gastrointestinal, respiratory and cardiovascular systems. Oranges and apples are also capable of triggering asthma. In extreme cases, these fruits and nuts may cause life-threatening effects such as anaphylactic reactions which causes the swelling of the passageway of air resulting to breathing problems.

A good way to avoid fruit and nuts allergies is to avoid handling of raw fruits. Cooking and microwaving for 30 seconds is recommended to reduce effects. In addition, fruits and nuts that are cooked, processed or canned may diminish the fruit’s harmful allergic effects.  However, the best way is still to completely avoid eating fruits and nuts that you are allergic to. As such, you can always use other alternatives such as mango, grapes, gooseberries guava, and many others to supplement your diet. In the case of ready made food, always make it a point to read the labels or ingredients used in the product before consuming it. Having these pointers in mind, you can be safe from the effects of fruit and nuts allergies.
